What Types Of Protective Films Are There?
Dec 01, 2025
There are many types of protective films. Commonly used ones, categorized by raw materials, include: PE (polyethylene), PET (polyester film), CPP (polypropylene), PVC (polyvinyl chloride), and OPP. PE comes in many colors, the most common being transparent, blue, black and white, and milky white. Other colors include black, gray, green, yellow, orange, gold, and red. PET is generally available in transparent, gray, and gold.
CPP is usually frosted, creating a matte finish. PVC is commonly transparent, including blue transparent electrostatic film.
OPP is generally a transparent adhesive film. PE has the most varieties of protective films, including PE adhesive film, PE electrostatic film, PE textured film, PE stretch film, and PE packaging film. Viscosities range from 5g to 270g, and thicknesses from 1.5C to 15C. 5C is the most common.
PET protective films include silicone PET, acrylic PET, frosted PET, three-layer PET, single-layer PET, double-layer PET, and PET release film. PET protective film is commonly used for various screen protection applications. PET release film is frequently used in die-cutting plants for PET protective film.
The most commonly used die-cutting grades are 5C and 7.5C. Commonly used release films are 2.5C, 3.8C, 5C, and 7.5C. For products with smooth surfaces, electrostatic film, low-tack PE plain or textured film can be chosen. The rougher the surface, the higher the viscosity of the protective film should be. PET protective film is generally chosen for screen protection, while PE film is chosen for various plastic products, sheets, and glass surfaces. Electrostatic film, frosted film, and low-tack PE film can be used for high-gloss plastic surfaces.
