Composition Of Silicone Sealant

Dec 08, 2025

The main components of glass sealant include silicone polymers (such as polydimethylsiloxane), fillers (such as calcium carbonate and silica), plasticizers, crosslinking agents, catalysts, and pigments. Silicone polymers are the base material of glass sealant, giving it excellent adhesion and elasticity; fillers are used to adjust viscosity and mechanical properties; plasticizers improve flexibility; crosslinking agents and catalysts promote the curing reaction; and pigments are used to adjust color.

Glass sealant can be divided into neutral and acidic sealants according to its application. Neutral sealants are non-corrosive to materials such as metals and are suitable for a variety of substrates; acidic sealants cure quickly but may corrode some metals. Glass sealant is widely used in construction, home decoration, and automotive manufacturing for sealing and bonding glass, metals, ceramics, and other materials. When using glass sealant, attention should be paid to factors such as substrate cleanliness, environmental temperature and humidity control, and curing time to ensure optimal bonding results.
